That kids show Handy Manny. Why the hell isn’t it “ Handy Mandy?” Is the idea of a woman using tools just THAT far-fetched? That title just works so much better, and the premise of the show would still be exactly the same.

That is a much better title. Might I also offer Handy Andy as pretty obvious better choice.

Mandy Patinkin wouldn't care either way...

Handy Manny may have a completely different theme to it (you may have a typo in there)
Edit: nevermind
Handy Manny sounds like something that might be a follow up for ‘to catch a predator’

It’ll bother you more once you realize Manny’s VERY recognizable voice on an adult crime show
Every time my wife watches it I start singing the Handy Manny theme song/Hop Up Jump In COME ON LETS GO

They couldn’t have got that guy from the 70’s show to do the voice if that was the case

Kelly runs the hardware store, and often pitches in on the work.

I agree with you, but I’m guessing that you put more thought into this than they did. They were probably very stoned when one of them said “let’s make a show about a Handyman..We’ll call it Handy Manny! Get it?”
I agree that Handy Mandy sounds better, but Handy Manny is closer to Handyman, and that's probably as far as they got. Plus, Handy Mandy would be a Handywoman, then the play on words doesn't work so well.

Handy Andy was a kids tool play set in the 60's and 70's.
You are welcome for that bit of useless information.

The show came out almost 12 years ago, at that time it was kind of a big deal that there was a Hispanic main character on a kids show .
Disney execs weren’t ready for Handy Mandy.

It was also a chain of home centers, pre-Home Depot.

Given what I’ve learned about the toy/kids show industry from my wife who worked in it for 13 years , it’s because the people making all the decisions are a bunch of old dudes.

Ummm, I thought that was obvious. The characters name is Manny (derivative of Manuel) Garcia. He’s supposed to be Hispanic that’s goes along with them teaching Spanish words. The whole show has a Latin cultural lean. Mandy is used as shortening of Amanda in Latin countries but it doesn’t have a Hispanic connection for young non-Hispanic viewers.
